Cable Fault Location & Repair

Rapid detection, location, and repair of
faults across a range of cable networks

Project Experience

Fault Location

Maintaining the reliability of electrical power and communications systems depends heavily on the ability to quickly identify and resolve faults within cable networks. Whether the cables are laid onshore or offshore, faults can lead to disruptions that impact entire systems—making timely intervention essential.

SPIE Wind Connects end-to-end fault resolution process is designed to deliver safe, efficient, and lasting results. We have industry-leading experts and advanced equipment capable of diagnosing and resolving a wide range of faults in both HV Power Cables and Fibre Optic Systems.

Fault Repair

For HV Power Cable faults between the core and screen, we deploy our fleet of Megger STX40 systems—2000 Joule portable fault locators—capable of applying up to 40kV DC and 32kV as a capacitive surge. These systems utilize Arc Reflection Method (ARM), Impulse Current (ICE), and
Voltage Decay techniques to rapidly pre-locate faults with precision.

If a fault is identified between the screen and the outer semi-conductive sheath, we utilise our Megger HVB10 high voltage bridge systems to precisely pinpoint and locate the issue with a high degree of accuracy.

In cases where the fault impacts internal fibre optic cables, we deploy our extensive fleet of Exfo OTDRs (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers) to accurately trace, locate, and diagnose the problem for efficient resolution.

Highly Skilled Cable Jointers

SPIE Wind Connects Cable Jointers carry out complex repairs with precision, expertly splicing and rejoining cables to restore optimal performance and long-term durability.

SPIE Wind Connects’ Cable Jointers perform complex cable repairs with exceptional precision, expertly splicing and rejoining damaged sections to restore full operational performance and ensure long-term durability of the network.
